This image from 2018 came from a discoloured patch in the stone work of Stanley Cohen House on the Golden Lane Estate, London.
The Golden Lane Estate is a landmark postwar social housing project feted for its modernist architecture and visionary outlook to high-density inner-city living spaces. It’s landlord, the lavishly rich Corporation of London is not impressed by the Grade II listed status awarded the estate by English Heritage and have allowed parts to fall into a state of chronic neglect.
This pattern appeared on the ceiling of an undercover passage and is probably the result of rainwater pooling. It seemed apt since the shapes seemed to resemble a cluster of low-lying oceanic islands perpetually on the brink of disappearance due to sea levels rising.
