One day in the day centre at Headway HQ, Stuart and I sat on the sofa staring at a painting on the wall opposite. Its title was ‘In A Forest’ and we talked about a song by The Cure with the same name.
We checked it out on YouTube and discovered that the song’s actual title was simply ‘A Forest’. In it the singer goes blundering deep into a dense forest in hot pursuit of an imaginary girl. By the end of the song the girl is not just imaginary she is nonexistent. It was all an illusion after all.
The painting on the wall showed a tall brown tree trunk in a jungle of green. It was signed, or so we thought it was. The artist’s name was B T Pole.
